You may have watched the Grammy’s the other week and you may have seen Justin Timberlake looking so freaking adorable on stage and Taylor Swift’s freak show. You may have seen another performance that I think wasn’t talked about enough. It was Rihanna’s performance. She sang her song titled “Stay” with Mikky Ekko, an artist I hadn’t ever heard of before. The performance wasn’t flashy or energetic like the others. There weren’t any crazy special effects or backup dancers. It was just those two singing up on stage, standing in one place the whole time. This performance didn’t need all that stuff because that song in itself was enough. It was slow and the words were meaning full and heartfelt. I’ve always liked Rihanna as an artist, but this song is different from the one’s I’ve heard her sing in the past. “Stay” was about something real and the way she sang the song really made me believe every word she was saying. It has become one of my new favorite songs. Another reason that I like it so much is because I know what she is singing about. I’ve felt the same way. There have been people in my life that I’ve wanted to stick around and be in my life forever that didn’t. Also, there are people in my life right now that I hope never leave. If you haven’t heard the song yet you need to look it up right now. It’s completely amazing and it is practically impossible not to feel something when you listen to it.

Here are the lyrics if you want to sing along.

Stay by Rihanna featuring Mikky Ekko

All along it was a fever
A cold sweat hot-headed believer
I threw my hands in the air and said, “Show me something,”
He said, “If you dare come a little closer.”

Round and around and around and around we go
Oh now tell me now tell me now tell me now you know

Not really sure how to feel about it.
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can’t live without you.
It takes me all the way.
I want you to stay

It’s not much of a life you’re living
It’s not just something you take – it’s given

Round and around and around and around we go
Oh now tell me now tell me now tell me now you know

Not really sure how to feel about it.
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can’t live without you.
It takes me all the way.
I want you to stay.

Oh the reason I hold on
Oh cause I need this hole gone
Funny you’re the broken one but I’m the only one who needed saving
Cause when you never see the light it’s hard to know which one of us is caving

Not really sure how to feel about it.
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can’t live without you.
It takes me all the way.
I want you to stay, stay.
I want you to stay, oh.

Epiphany (Part 3)

I did not expect this situation to happen. It didn’t make any sense and it still doesn’t make any sense. Why didn’t he say that he was going to pick me? He knew that that was what I wanted. Why would you just settle for the next best thing when you could have the thing you want most? That question has been burning in my head ever since. That is the thing that bothers me the most. It’s not the fact that I didn’t end up with him. It’s the fact that he didn’t fight for what he wanted. He just let it go. That right there makes me wonder if he said he was going to pick me just because he could. Maybe he really didn’t want me. Either way, both of those situations are stupid.

I am by no means an expert at relationships as you may have found some red flags in my story, but I have learned a lot from this situation. I learned that just because you text someone everyday, doesn’t mean that what they are saying to you is the truth and there are some things that should be said to someone’s face. Maybe the person you are talking to is just spending their time talking to you because they’re bored. Another thing I learned is if someone really wanted to talk to you or hang out with you, they would talk to you or ask you first. But the biggest thing I learned from all this is that you should never settle. If you want something you should fight for it, especially if all you have to do to get it is ask. Life is too short for regrets and it is too short to pass up opportunities. Be brave and go out and get what you want.

Epiphany (Part 2)

By now two months had passed since I first started talking to this boy. We had only hung out once because one of us was always busy with work or some other event. I always asked him what he had planned for the weekend and I always mentioned that I wanted to hang out with him if he had the time. Unfortunately, it never worked out. After a few weeks, the girl who sat in the spot next to me in class came back from her illness and the boy had to sit in his original spot again.  Because of this, we didn’t get to talk as much in class. Pretty soon he stopped texting me first, but I still wanted to talk to him so I took matters into my own hands and texted him first. We still talked everyday. All this time I was hoping that maybe, just maybe, he would be my boyfriend. I asked him if he liked me and he said yes and so I told him the same back. It was over text, which wasn’t ideal, but it was sufficient for me. After awhile things started to change. I can’t really explain how, but they just did. One day he didn’t answer my texts in the morning and then he had to go to work so I didn’t talk to him all day. That night I was with my friends and when it was time for him to get off I kept an eye out for a reply. My friends had texted him earlier in the day as well and after work he answered them, but not me. That made me mad. He finally texted me but it didn’t have anything to do with my previous messages. It turned out he didn’t receive them. One of my friends proceeded to text him and asked him a bunch of questions about me. He answered all the questions honestly, even after knowing that my friend and I were together. This is when I found something out. Something I didn’t like.

It turned out that he had been talking to another girl too. I knew that we weren’t dating or anything, but that didn’t make it hurt any less. I liked this boy and only this boy. It hurt to think that he might not feel the same way. After the weekend I met up with him to talk things over. I told him that I like him and asked him if he liked me. He said yes. I also asked if he liked the other girl. He said yes. I told him that he needed to make a decision because he couldn’t have both of us and so I left. After two days I hadn’t heard from him so I decided that he didn’t really like me that much. I thought that if he liked me he wouldn’t have to think so hard about this decision. If he liked me I would have been the obvious choice. I told him that I was going to back off. Later in the week I told him that I still wanted him to talk to me. He said that I was the one who gave up and I told him that he was the one who couldn’t decide and not to blame this on me. He responded by saying that he was picking me but I didn’t realize it because I gave up. That was threw me for a loop. I didn’t understand why he didn’t say anything to me. Why didn’t he man up and say how he felt when I was backing off? So now he’s with the other girl.

Epiphany: A Three Part Mini Series (Part I)

You may have noticed that my blog is mainly about food and fashion, but today I am straying away from those topics to tell you a story. This is kind of a long story and that is why, as you can see from the title of this post, it will have three parts. I suggest you go to the bathroom and make a bowl of popcorn because this story is a doozy. Here we go.

Are you a shy person? Do you not talk much around people you don’t really know? I don’t know about you because chances are I don’t know you. Maybe you aren’t shy, but this story may still apply to you. I am shy. I always have been and I probably always will be. I don’t talk to people that I don’t know. I usually don’t talk much in class unless I’m spoken to first. In reality though, I’m a very fun person. I’m weird in a good way and I think I’m hilarious. I know how to crack a good joke every once in a while. Once I get to know people I show them who I really am. This combination of personality is weird even for me to wrap my mind around. Because I’m shy I don’t really meet many boys and that’s where this story starts to get interesting.

There was this boy that I met in 9th grade. We weren’t friends, more like acquaintances. We stayed that way all the way through freshman and sophomore year. We would just say hi to each other in the hallways or at football games, but nothing more. Then this year I had a class with him. We sat on opposite sides of the room so we didn’t ever talk. One day in class he came over and sat in an empty seat next to me and my friend. The three of us had a lot of fun in our little corner of the room. The boy continued to sit in that seat for a few weeks and we started to text each other. This was the second boy in my entire life that I had ever texted so this was kind of a big deal. We started out as friends, but then it turned into a little more than that. We would talk everyday for as long as we could and little cute things would be said here and there. It was these cute things that made me realize that I actually might like this boy and that this could actually turn into something. It wasn’t until I hung out with him that I realized I really did like him.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Oreo Brownies

One day at lunch, one of the girls I sit with mentioned that she made what I’m going to refer to as Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Oreo Brownies. The way she described the dessert was like music to my ears. I love all of those ingredients and I was trying to imagine what they would taste like all mixed together. I could only assume that they were delicious. The next day, she brought a piece in her snack lunch and gave me a small piece. It wasn’t a lot to go off of because it was such a small piece but I got the general idea and decided I needed to make and try them myself. I wasted no time in getting the ingredients and made them yesterday.

This recipe is very easy. Only a fool could mess it up. (sorry to those of you who make this and fail)

1 package of Double Stuffed Oreos (or whatever kind you want to put in)

1 box of brownie mix

1 tube of cookie dough (you are going to need a large tube to fill the bottom of the pan)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Line the inside of a 13×9 pan with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray.

3. Cover the bottom of the pan with cookie dough.

4. Lay Oreo cookies on top of the cookie dough leaving a little bit of space inbetween each cookie.

5. Follow the directions for mixing the brownie mix and pour over top of the cookie dough and Oreos making sure everythig is covered.

6. Put it in the oven for 40 minutes or until a toothpick can be poked in the brownies and come out cleanly. (I think mine took about 45 minutes)

When the brownies are finished you will have a delicious treat to bring to a party or keep all to yourself. I wouldn’t blame you if you kept they for yourself. They taste great. The brownie part is moist and the cookie dough is soft. The Oreos in the center are softer but they still have little crunch to them. Now what are you waiting for?!? Go make some!

New Spring Addiction

This past Tuesday I came home from a  long day of school and cello lessons and church to sprawl out on my bed and watch one of my favorite TV shows. If you are a teenage girl you probably have a good idea about what show I’m talking about. Pretty Little Liars. It’s such a wonderful thing and brightens my life. As I was laying on my bed taking in all the secrets and drama that was unfolding, I came across a wonderful piece of clothing. This isn’t really anything new since everyone in the show knows how to dress to impress. I don’t know where they get all their clothes, but I need to find out like now. Anyway, the piece of clothing that I’m talking about was worn by Hanna, one of the main characters. It was a blue sleeveless button-down top with a collar. It sounds like a pretty normal top right? Wrong. At the neck there were cutouts. It was genius!! I wanted to reach right through my TV screen and rip it off her so I could wear it.

Here is a picture of Hanna (Ashley Benson) wearing the shirt in the show.

Then, today as I was scrolling through the seemingly endless pictures on Pinterest, I found a shirt with the same type a cutouts. I had, yet again, the urge to reach through my screen and grab the shirt.

Pinned Image

This shirt has the same idea as the one from Pretty Little Liars. If the other shirt was bottoned up it would look more like this shirt. This picture came from It has lots of great pictures of people showing off their style. Check it out!

This idea of cutouts in a bottondown shirt inspires me to try it myself. I can go out and buy a cheap shirt and change it however I please. There are so many different things that could be done. You could cut sections from the back of the shirt to show off your shoulder blades. You could even cut out different shapes like triangles or hearts for more of a geometric or girly feel depending on your style. You could do the same thing on the front as well, whatever pleases your eye most.

I think I am definitely going to try this out. This gives me a chance to be creative and make something that no one else has. I can be different. And who knows, maybe I’ll even start a new “trend”.

Spring is a cool breeze and the sun shining through the clouds. The grass turns green and flowers spring up. Maybe that’s why it’s called Spring. I never really thought about that before. Spring is a breath of fresh air. Since the weather changes from being freezing cold to a more favorable atmosphere one can wear different pieces of clothing to go with the shift in temperature. This Spring it’s all about Maxi skirts and dresses. These long and flowing skirts are perfect for Spring weather. They cover your legs for the chilly morning hours but aren’t too heavy for the afternoon when the air has finally warmed up. They also blow in the breeze, flowing elegantly behind you as you walk, making you look like some sort of goddess. I don’t know about you but looking like any kind of goddess is a definite plus in my book. Maxi skirts are flattering to the body because they are usually high-waisted, hugging your body at your waist, the smallest part of your body. Because they are flowy, they hide the rest of your body. This is good if you want to hide something that you’re not too comfortable with. As you can see from the pictures I have provided below, they come in many  different colors. You may have also noticed that many of the skirts are pleated. Pleated skirts are in this season and I can proudly say that I myself own a pleated skirt. It’s short and floral printed. I hope to find a longer one soon so I can wear it his Spring. Although, it doesn’t seem like it’s going to get any warmer in my town any time soon. It was looking great there for a while but this week it’s back down to the single digits. Well anyway, back to the skirts. Since the skirts are normally high-waisted, I think the best thing to wear on top is a tank top or short-sleeved shirt tucked in. You could go for a tight fit on top or go with something a little more loose and loungy. A light jacket or cardigan over top will add some more visual interest and heat because it is Spring. That breeze can really get ya sometimes. Add some fun jewelry, sandals, and maybe a pair of sunglasses and you are ready go through your day without a doubt catching the eye of many passersby.

Chicken Tortilla Soup

Yesterday mom made Chicken Tortilla soup for dinner and man was it delicious. If you like tacos and if you like soup then this will be perfect for you!! It is awesome. It’s a little spicy so I’m just warning those who don’t like spicy things. Frankly, I think that is crazy. I love spicy things which is partly why I like this soup. I also love that flavor of the broth. I don’t quite know what it is that I like but it is so good. I provided the recipe below so feel free to make it. In fact, I encourage it!! Please make it and enjoy! You won’t regret it.

Spread the Love

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and I’m sure lots of people are scrambling to find something special for their special someones. You could always go with the classic roses and a box of chocolates but that ideas id kind of worn out. People want to get things that are unique and sentimental. It’s for that precise reason that I am writing this post. I want to help people spread the love this Valentine’s Day. Afterall, that’s what Valentine’s Day is all about, right?

#1 Write a song or poem

These can be very serious and filled with beautiful caring words or they can be funny and incorporate inside jokes that you have with your Valentine. Either option can be equally as loving, but make sure that it goes with the stage that your relationship is in. If you have only been going out for a few weeks, you should probably stay on the funny side rather than the very serious side. You don’t want to freak your significant other out.

#2 Bake something special

People love baked goods, especially when they are in the shape of a heart. Well, I like things better when they are heart-shaped. You literally can’t go wrong with this idea, unless you are a terrible baker. If you are a terrible baker you should probably steer clear of makin anything. You don’t want to poison your loved one. I feel that bake goods are more heart-felt than stuff that is store-bought. Homemade items are made with love and the person actually took time out of their day to make the cookies or cupcakes or whatever it might be just for you.

#3 Go out

This one is pretty obvious. Go out and do something that you both love. Maybe it’s going to a movie or maybe it’s paintballing. Whatever it may be, I feel you should both like it. But maybe it would be romantic to do something that you don’t necessarily like that your loved one does. maybe that would show them how much you really care. Either choice would be good I think.

#4 Make something

You could make a card or jewelry, something of that sort. You could make something that will be useful, for example, if your significant other is always losing their keys, you could make something for them to hang them on or something to put them in. Now every time they go to get their keys they will know where they are and they will think of you every time they do it.

There are definitely other ways to show you care, these are just a few examples I came up with to maybe help someone in need of an idea. I hope this Valentine’s Day is a good one and lots of people have a great time. I also hope I actually have a Valentine this year. There’s a very good chance I will so fingers crossed!!

You say ice cream. I say gelato?

Ice cream. It’s such a wonderful invention. I love eating ice cream. Wait a minute. Do I love ice cream? Or was that gelato? Oh gosh, what’s the difference?!? I’m sure lots of people have wondered about this. I don’t know what the difference is. If you are anything like me you can’t even tell the difference. And then there is soft serve and custard and frozen yogurt. What is with all these “different” things? They all taste delicious to me and frankly I can barely tell the difference. Now I’m curious about what the actual differences are. Let’s have a look shall we?

I’ll admit that I pretty much call all of the above frozen concoctions ice cream but I guess you could say that I am incorrect. Ice cream is made out of butterfat, nonfat milk solids, sugar and flavoring. Gelatin and gum are added to help make the smooth texture. The ingredients are whipped together in the freezer so it becomes filled with air to give its light, soft feel. Soft serve is basically the same th but with more air. I enjoy going to Cold Stone to get ice cream. They have some very tasty flavors such as Cake Batter. That one is my favorite. You also can’t go wrong with Blue Bunny’s Peanut Butter Panic.

Gelato is made from egg yolks, sugar, and milk. The mixture is heated and then cooled. It goes through this process and is then placed in the freezer where it is stirred to incorporate air and to give it its smooth texture. Gelato is more dense than ice cream. I haven’t had much gelato but I will say that Talenti has a delicious Caramel Cookie Crunch. I have some in the freezer right now and I’ve sort of hidden it so no one can have any besides me. I know that’s selfish but if only you knew what it tasted like……yum. There is one thing that I have noticed about gelato and that is the fact that it tastes more expensive. I don’t know how to explain what I actually mean by that, but it makes sense to me. Maybe you know what I’m getting at. It turns out that gelato is a little more expensive as well, but maybe that’s just those certain brands.

Frozen custard is very dense compared to the others. It has only about 20% air. It also contains 1.4% egg yolk,  10% milk fat, sugar, and cream. I love Culver’s frozen custard and there used to be a little custard shop that was very good as well but it closed. The was a sad day when I found out it was gone.

Hopefully that helped  you determine some differences between these frozen treats. Now I’m hungry from all this talking about ice cream and stuff. I think I’ll go sneak some of that gelato now. 🙂
